Let’s pretend that you’re interested in cooking (you’re here reading this aren’t you, so it shouldn’t be that much of a stretch). Now let’s imagine a kitchen that lets you do and create whatever you may want. What is something that our imaginations should all have in common? Did you say a personal chef? Neither did we (although that would be amazing too).  What does every dream kitchen have in common? Yes there are a few of the big things to cover, namely appliances, tools, utensils, and lots of space. However, for this purpose, we’re talking about small appliances.

Small appliances make your efforts in the kitchen easier and more convenient. It’s just that simple. Now, not everyone needs or uses every small, or large, appliance that there is. However, we’ve assembled a short list of the most useful, must-have appliances for your kitchen. Whether you agree or not is something that you’ll have to decide as you read for yourself. If you don’t agree or have other suggestions, let us know (we always welcome feedback)!

Coffee Maker

There’s no better way to start the day than a fresh cup of coffee. Unless, of course, you don’t drink coffee, in which case you are free to disagree. These handy little percolators are indispensable to many of us because of our love for a fresh cup of steamy bean juice and this makes coffee makers one of the most common small appliances in any household (or office… or hotel) kitchen. If you are someone who loves coffee you can also check out this article about the best ways to make coffee in the morning.

Toaster

Warmed, crisp bread or bagels are wonderful things. Whether you’re spreading some of your favorite nut-butter or jam across one for a quick snack, or if you’re toasting bread for your favorite sandwich, a toaster is a must-have in many a kitchen.

Hand Mixer

Any baker out there knows just how much effort can go into mixing dough, batter, or even mashed potatoes by hand. Luckily, we have convenient hand mixers that can assist us with such things. Many come with handy (pun intended) attachments including dough hooks or whisks.

Food Processor

Want to chop a lot of vegetables in a short amount of time? A food processor can certainly help. If you use it often enough, it could even be your best friend! Many come with a variety of blades or attachments to work its magic in a variety of ways. From salsa to hummus to pesto, this little wonder has got you covered.

Blender

Start with some ice cubes, add fruit, toss in some greens, and a few nuts then presto, you have yourself an amazing smoothie! If you have a blender, it’s that simple. If you don’t, that’s a whole other matter. While a food processor is made more specifically for more solids, a blender can make short work of smoothies, salad dressings, soups, and a myriad of other culinary delights.

Electric Grill

Now, what you define as an electric grill may differ from an electric griddle, a panini grill, or a waffle iron, but regardless of your preferred definition, these are handy to have (especially for waffles, if that’s your thing like it is ours).

Slow Cooker

A slow cooker, or crock pot, is the champion of a number of different recipes, but is most commonly used for day-long stews, chilli, and soups. Of the culinary marvels that have been listed so far, this one is a little different because none of the others allow you to prepare a meal before you leave for the day and come home to a freshly prepared meal.
